The ability to recall answers for basic math facts quickly and accurately is an important and necessary skill for children as they acquire mathematical knowledge that will later support the learning of algebra. In March 2008, the National Mathematics Advisory Panel released its findings Foundations for Success: The Final Report of the National Mathematics Advisory Panel (U.S. Department of Education, Washington, DC). Regarding the commitment of math facts to long-term memory, the Panel stated computational facility with whole number operations rests on the automatic recall of addition and related subtraction facts, and of multiplication and related division facts. Fact Mastery: Multiplication & Division provides the tools to help children reach this level of mastery recommended by the National Mathematics Advisory Panel.

Fact Mastery: Multiplication & Division targets essential skill development by introducing multiplication and division facts 0-9 in a systematic manner and by providing the following specific activities for practicing them:

  • Thinking strategies to build understanding of number relationships
  • Over 45 half-page activities called Fast Facts for quick developmental practice
  • 58 math drill activities for racing the clock to strengthen recall skills
  • 15 fun, easy-to-play partner games for applying knowledge of math facts
  • Pretest/posttest assessment tools for tailoring the instruction to meet the educational needs of students

With these engaging and motivating games and activities, students can improve their accuracy and speed and move toward the goal of computational fluency as stated in the 2008 Foundations for Success: The Final Report of the National Mathematics Advisory Panel.
